What is Web Hosting?
Web hosting is a service which allows you to publish your website files or web applications on the Internet for visitors to access by typing your web address into a web browser. Companies allow you to ‘rent’ space on their server, so you can store your website files and provide the bandwidth you need for your visitors to access your website.
There are many different types of service to choose from, such as:
- Shared Hosting — an entry-level service where multiple websites hosted under one server, each “sharing” the overall resources of the server; this is the typical setup provided by many companies, and it’s ideal for most medium-sized websites.
- VPS — a virtual private server (VPS) is mid-way between shared and a Dedicated Server. You get root-level access to a server, but the overall hardware and compute will be shared amongst other users on the same physical server.
- Dedicated Servers — a dedicated server is a hardware solution wholly dedicated to your sole purpose. There are no noisy neighbours, and you have complete access to the server, and it’s resources.
We provide a complete cloud-based product set which has designed for you to start small and scale-up through, Premium, VPS and Dedicated Cloud; as your business grows and demand on your website increases.
What type of website is suitable for your standard package?
Our entry-level package is ideal for most websites, blogs, shopping carts and most other web applications, as well as being a natural and cost-effective route for taking your first steps toward creating a web presence. In most cases, you can start here and upgrade as your website requirements change.
Premium Hosting is perfect for online stores. A service suited towards more demanding websites and apps; but also allows you to benefit from higher speeds, lower user contention (e.g. fewer sites per server) and jailed SSH access. So if you need a faster service, have a busier website or require greater control over your account, this would be the ideal path for you.
Do your plans include SSL Certificates?
We support LetsEncrypt which provides a free SSL Certificate to all domains which you host with us. You can use this to secure your primary domain, all subdomains and even addon domains too. To issue a new SSL certificate with LetsEncrypt, head over to your control panel, go to ‘LetsEncrypt SSL’ and then follow the details on the screen to ‘Issue’ your cert for the chosen domain.
Do I have to pay extra for a domain name?
If you choose our standard web hosting package, you will need to pay extra for a domain name or use an existing domain which you already own. Our domain pricing can be found here.
Our premium package offers a free .uk or .co.uk domain registration for the first year. You must order the domain name at the same time as your hosting package for your order to qualify.
Can I use my domain registered elsewhere with your serivces?
We offer FREE .uk or .co.uk domain transfers for existing domain names, allowing you to host and manage your .uk and .co.uk domain names all in the same place. For all other TLD’s – transfers are billed at the standard transfer rates found on our domain checker page at the time of ordering.
You can also choose to point your domain to us using our default nameservers, so you don’t have to transfer your domain across if you don’t want to. Our nameservers will be in the welcome email upon order acceptance.
Does the package include web applications like WordPress?
Our application installer carries over 200 of the most popular web applications, which allow one-click installs conveniently right from within your control panel. The application installer includes WordPress, Magento, Drupal, OpenCart, Joomla, ModX and many more.
Do I share resources with other customers?
Yes, your account is hosted on a web hosting server which is “multi-tenanted” – otherwise known as “shared”. We provide our Web Hosting Service using the CloudLinux operating system, which provides a very high level of account security and isolation using technology called CageFS.
Additionally, we utilise another CloudLinux technology called LVE on these servers, which limits the resources that any individual account can use on the server at one time, ensuring that the performance offered by the server remains predictable and stable.
How many websites can I host?
We do not limit the amount of domains or websites which your Web Hosting account can host; however, there is a practical limitation to the amount of CPU and memory available on our enterprise-grade servers.
If you outgrow our shared platform, then we offer an easy migration path to other services such our VPS and Dedicated Cloud services.
What are Entry Processes?
An Entry Process (EP) Limit represents the maximum number of entries into LVE. A new process enters LVE when there is an HTTP request for CGI/PHP and the process counter increments. The limit was created by CloudLinux to prevent DoS attacks against a web server, and is also known as “Apache concurrent connections limit”.
What happens if I want to upgrade later?
If you decide you want to upgrade your package to a different service such as our Reseller, Premium Hosting or VPS – it’s easy. Just contact our support team, and we will guide you through the entire process.
With a pro-rata invoice raised on your account (for the difference between the packages based upon your current billing period) our friendly support team will then migrate your data, and your subscription fee will change to reflect your new solution.
Are there any other fees or costs?
No, you only pay your recurring subscription fee. We have no hidden costs, sign-up or cancellation fees.
Which payment methods do you accept?
We currently accept card payments via Stripe, or subscriptions and one-time payments via PayPal.
What if I find your service is not a good fit for me?
If you wish to cancel your subscription for any reason within the first 30 days, we offer a no-quibble money back guarantee.
Do you offer free web hosting?
No, we do not offer free web hosting services. There’s a good reason for this too as most free web hosting providers will pack you into overloaded, insecure and blacklisted servers. It is not how we operate at Unlimited. We believe in charging a fair, affordable price for our cloud services, with superior uptime, no overcrowding and secure facilities.
